RCGP Revalidate (Winter 2014)

Guide to Revalidation (Version 8)

Revalidation is likely to be introduced across the UK in December 2012, starting with responsible officers in the first few months. The majority of licensed doctors will be revalidated for the first time by the end of March 2016.

GPs collect a portfolio of supporting information over the Revalidation period. This portfolio is reviewed as part of your annual appraisal and submitted to the Responsible Officer. At the time of your revalidation the Responsible Officer will review all appraisals undertaken within the revalidation cycle together with any other relevant performance data currently held by the Area Team . The Responsible Officer is then able to make a recommendation for Revalidation to the General Medical Council.

On some occasions the Responsible Officer may defer the decision for up to six months (usually) to allow time for further appraisal and/or performance data to be collected and reviewed.
